Life in Active Gardening for Income and Nutrition (Life AGAIN) Project
The life AGAIN project was started in response to the devastating COVID-19 effect on the lives and livelihoods of women in Uganda. Most Ugandan women hitherto worked in the informal sector, only to lose their businesses and employment as a result of the 2-year COVID-19 lockdown which saw the closure of markets and ban on public and private transport. As a result, women’s dependence on others increased, while household food security decreased. Consequently, COVID-19 reduced the capacity of women to generate income and feed their families. With over 2 years of lockdown, the pandemic led women and children to experience more gender-based violence.
The month of starting.
The project started in June 2022 and impacted 126 households headed mainly by single mothers and widows, located in Nansana and Kira Municipalities of Wakiso District.
The Life AGAIN project
was built on the need to enable 100 vulnerable women to return to productive
work after the loss and devastation of their livelihoods.
Current beneficiaries.
